11/8/26: A Case of Mistaken Identity?

Maybe I’m a little slow today, but I’m having a difficult time understanding how any sighted person could mistake this Dana White . . .

Dana F. White, President and CEO, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)

. . . for this Dana White:

Dana W. White, Former Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs

The first is a rough, tough, “violent” (Donald Trump’s description, not mine), male martial arts fighter.

The second is a polished, non-violent female whose career in public affairs led her to the post of Pentagon Chief Spokesperson for the Department of Defense and for former Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis.

Yet somehow, in some parallel universe, Donald Trump may have confused these two disparate individuals in his mind, and offered the position of White House Press Secretary to the wrong one.

Word has it that the offer was made to Dana F. White, and included the option of bringing with him some of his equally rough, tough, violent fighters as “assistants.” (Or did he mean to say “assassins”?)

But was it all a misunderstanding? Did someone recommend that he consider Dana W. White for the job? And, still on a high from last summer’s cage fight on the White House lawn, did his mind automatically turn toward his body-building, buns-of-steel friend from the UFC?

“Dana White? Yeah … great idea!”

I’m sure Trump will find a way to joke himself out of yet another embarrassing faux pas. But if he needs help, I can offer a simple solution.

Remember the election in Alaska, with two Dan Sullivans running in the U.S. Senate race? Trump sought to iron out any confusion by disqualifying the Dan Sullivan he didn’t like. (It didn’t work, but he tried his damndest.)

We could just adopt his methodology, eliminate Dana F. White, and offer the post to the only one of the two actually qualified for the job: Dana W. White.

Or would that be too logical?

Just sayin’ . . .
