To suspend disbelief means to temporarily set aside logic, common sense and real-life knowledge in order to be able to accept fiction or fantasy as truth.
If you need a living example, look no further than this:

Donald Trump’s entire life has been one long, continuous fantasy, reinforcing his narcissistic belief in his own superiority, infallibility, and immortality. However, the political tables have just taken a huge turn in another direction, in addition to the toll being exacted on him by his obvious (though undeclared) health challenges. And he seems to be sensing the first cracks in his suit of armor, as he dives ever deeper into his vanity projects — his Versailles-sized ballroom, his Germania*-sized arch, his name and face plastered everywhere — in order to escape reality.

And he did it again yesterday, when he signed a proclamation intended to preserve the White House’s Oval Office as a national monument, saying that:
“It will not be allowed to be touched by anybody, destroyed, ripped down by stupid people, in order to build something in a slightly different shape. We like the Oval Office, and it’s a symbol, like the White House itself. . . . If they want to say, ‘let’s not have oval anymore, let’s make it square,’ what happens is they have to go back to Congress and hopefully the Congress, the people in Congress, will be smart enough not to let that happen.”
– Donald J. Trump, November 5, 2026

Nope . . . no joke.
This, from the man who demolished the entire East Wing of the White House for his ballroom, destroyed the Reflecting Pool because of an algae problem, decimated the Kennedy Center in a vain attempt to name it after himself, and keeps insisting he’s going to build the world’s biggest triumphal arch between the Memorial Bridge and Arlington National Cemetery . . . all without seeking the requisite Congressional approval.
He seems to be projecting his own modus operandi onto some future, as-yet-unknown president who might theoretically have equally crazy ideas of his or her own. So he added this:
“If anybody ever decides to come and start knocking down walls, you call me wherever I may be, and I’ll come back here and I’ll make sure it never happens.”

That’s telling ‘em, big guy!
Just sayin’ . . .
