11/3/26: Quote of the Day: On Creative Arithmetic

They don’t teach arithmetic any more.

Today’s math is incomprehensible to those of us who learned addition, subtraction, multiplication, long division, fractions, and decimals in a way that got us to the correct answer in the minimum amount of time. We studied it until it became second nature, and it has remained lodged in our brains through all the decades since.

But even today’s students know that, if you reduce something by more than 100%, you’re below zero. So when Donald Trump says he’s reducing prescription costs by 100%, 200%, or even 300%, he’s actually saying the pharmacist will owe you money. And he doesn’t get it.

But he even topped that yesterday when he delivered his last-ditch pre-election speech in front of the newly reopened Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington. Trying to convince voters that he is a man of his word, he said that he has kept every promise he has made to the people. In fact, he said:

“I’ve kept every single promise I made, except far more. I’ve actually kept far more promises than I made.”

– Donald J. Trump, November 2, 2026

Honestly . . . I can’t even.

Just sayin’ . . .
