8/30/26: Quote of the Day: On How to End a War in 24 Hours

It’s well known that Vladimir Putin has been desperately seeking a means of ending his very costly “special military operation” in Ukraine without losing face. (Donald Trump bragged during hhis 2024 campaign that he could get it done within 24 hours of taking office, and we know how well that has gone.)

But now it seems that the Deputy Chairman of the Duma (lower house) of the Russian Parliament, Pyotr Tolstoy, believes he has found the answer. He suggests that they should simply begin bombing the hell out of Ukrainian cities to demoralize the population and force the people to surrender to Russian troops.

Pyotr Tolstoy

During an appearance on the Russian talk show “Time Will Tell,” he was reminded that there are more than 20 million people living in Ukraine, and was asked what he thought would happen to them if Russia were to adopt such a “scorched earth” policy.

In response, Tolstoy said they would give the populace 24 hours’ notice in which to evacuate, blithely adding:

“Do you think that we are calling for cruelty? No, we are calling for the public to be demoralised so much that they come out to meet our troops with their hands up.”

In other words, surrender or be vaporized.

I didn’t think there could be anyone more cruel than Putin; but this guy makes Attila the Hun look like Mother Teresa.

Just sayin’ . . .
