8/3/26: Another Day, Another Scam

When I started this blog nearly four years ago, there were two subjects I intended to avoid: 1) Religion, because it is a highly personal matter and I firmly believe that every individual has the right to his/her/their beliefs or disbeliefs without any snarky comments from me or anyone else; and 2) Domestic Politics, because it’s the one subject that seems to stir up more anger, more hostility, more quickly than any other . . . and I hate confrontation.

But in the last couple of years, since the lead-up to the 2024 elections, I have come to feel pretty much as I expect a stand-up comedian does: that it’s impossible to pass up the incredible material being fed to us by the various members of the Trump administration. Of course, it’s not always humorous; but it is damn near irresistible.

I mean, seriously . . . who can look at this lineup of sour-faced sycophants and not have something to say? . . .

Cabinet Meeting at Camp David – July 31, 2026

But today’s focus is not on what was — or was not — accomplished at the first-ever live, televised Cabinet meeting to be held at the presidential mountain getaway. There’s much more interesting stuff to cover from this past weekend.

Take Todd Blanche, for example.

As we all know, he made a name for himself as one of Donald Trump’s coterie of personal attorneys, defending him against a plethora of criminal charges in 2024. Next — quite coincidentally, of course — he stepped into the role of Assistant U.S. Attorney General, further honing his Machiavellian skills under the tutelage of then AG Pam Bondi (remember her?).

Blanche and Blondie … oops … Bondi

Well, Pam is now political history, and Todd has been serving as Acting Attorney General in her place. No surprise that Trump should then nominate as the next U.S. Attorney General . . . anyone care to guess? . . . good old reliable, faithful, loyal, unscrupulous Todd Blanche himself. Because Toddy has been a good boy as Acting AG, and slavishly endorsed every illegal, unconstitutional act that Donny has thrown his way.

But there has been a monkey wrench in his Congressional confirmation hearings: too many of our nation’s lawmakers have a problem with the $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” slush fund that Trump wants to use as a payout to his MAGA friends, and that both Todd and Pam okayed.

Needless to say, Donny is not happy about this turn of events . . . and least of all with the two Republican Senators, John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, who broke ranks and followed their consciences, refusing to turn a blind eye to one of Trump’s most blatantly iniquitous thefts of taxpayer money to date.

So, faced with the prospect of yet another ignominious defeat, what does Donny do? He “pauses” his nomination of Todd — just as he keeps “pausing” the threatened destruction of Iran — to buy a little time in which to figure out an escape plan. Immediately thereafter, Todd — to hardly anyone’s surprise — suddenly decides to rescind his approval of the $1.8 billion slush fund in hopes of cleaning up his image and clearing the way to Congressional approval of his permanent appointment.

Trump and His Personal Attorney

But what does all of this mean? Will Congress now fall into line and approve Trump’s personal counsel as permanent Attorney General? That remains to be seen.

And if they do, what will prevent Trump from reinvigorating his “anti-weaponization” proposal . . . or devising an entirely new scheme to rob the federal coffers of an even larger sum?

Absolutely nothing.

See what I mean about an endless supply of great material?

“This stuff practically writes itself!”

Just sayin’ . . .
