Looking around at the rather exceptional (and hopefully temporary) state of my life at the moment, the first word that comes to mind is “chaos.”
And British author and filmmaker Clive Barker — a leader in the horror fiction genre — may well have been looking over my shoulder when he said:
“[Horror fiction] shows us that the control we believe we have is purely illusory, and that every moment we teeter on chaos and oblivion.”

Thanks for the insight, Mr. Barker. Unfortunately, it’s of little comfort.
Just sayin’ . . .
