With the wars in Ukraine, Iran and Gaza occupying so much of everyone’s thoughts these days, it was refreshing to stumble upon a witty definition of what war actually boils down to. At least, this is how it was defined by the late American author and journalist Ambrose Bierce, on whom I can always count for a little irreverent humor:

“War is God’s way of teaching Americans geography.”

And I dare anyone to argue with that. Seriously.
