8/12/24: Taking A Break ‘Til I’m Better

This old spine of mine
Was feeling just fine,
Or what passes for fine nowadays,

‘Til I woke up one morn,
Gave forth a big yawn,
And my body from bed tried to raise.

I let out a moan,
A yelp and a groan,
And a scream that would make your blood curdle,

For my back was in spasm,
As tightened up as an
Edwardian debutante’s girdle.

I don’t know the reason
My back should be seizin’ —
I hadn’t done anything strenuous:

No sneezing or coughing,
No hugging, no “boffing.”
(And that’s not meant to be disingenuous.)

But now, after three days,
I’m feeling the malaise
That comes with complete inactivity.

With just me and the TV,
And a hot pad behind me —
I’m barely inclined to civility.

So my blog I’m ignorin’
While mostly I’m snorin’,
Or solitaire online I’m playin’.

I’ll be back when the news
Wakes me up from my snooze.
In the meantime, I’m still here.

Just sayin’ . . .
